Vegan & Vegetarian Cooking Classes in Motta Camastra: A Summer of Flavour, Nature & Connection

Vegan and vegetarian cooking classes in Motta Camastra near Mount Etna with guests preparing fresh plant-based Sicilian dishes.

This summer, something beautiful is coming to the mountains of Sicily.

From June to September, we will be opening our kitchen for intimate vegan and vegetarian cooking classes inspired by traditional Sicilian and Italian cuisine — reimagined through a fresh, plant-based lens.

Set high above the Alcantara Valley, near Mount Etna, these gatherings are not simply cooking lessons.

They are shared experiences.

They are connection.

They are Sicily, around a table.

A Plant-Based Celebration of Sicilian Cuisine

Sicilian food has always been rooted in the land.

Sun-ripened tomatoes.
Wild fennel.
Apricots.
Almonds.
Citrus.
Olive oil pressed from local groves.

Long before modern food trends, Sicilian cuisine naturally celebrated vegetables, legumes, grains, herbs and seasonal abundance.

Our vegan and vegetarian cooking classes honour these traditions — while gently evolving them.

We will explore:

• Plant-based Sicilian classics
• Seasonal antipasti
• Handmade pasta variations
• Fresh sauces and pestos
• Traditional recipes adapted beautifully without meat
• Rustic desserts inspired by almonds and citrus

Everything rooted in flavour.
Everything rooted in simplicity.

Small Groups, True Sicilian Style

Each class is limited to a maximum of 10 people.

Why?

Because these vegan and vegetarian cooking classes are not a demonstration.
They are participation.

You will chop, stir, taste, season and create together — guided step by step in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

And then, the most important part:

We sit down together around one long table.

Just as Sicilian families have always done.

There is no rush. There is conversation and connection.
There is laughter and there is plenty of fresh and healthy mountain air.

This is the heart of it.

Cooking With What the Season Gives Us

Summer in eastern Sicily is generous.

From June through September, markets are overflowing with:

• Zucchini and aubergines
• Sun-sweet tomatoes
• Fresh basil
• Almonds
• Apricots
• Figs
• Citrus
• Wild herbs

Where possible, we use fresh organic produce and local ingredients, often sourced directly from nearby farms and growers.

Food tastes different when it has travelled only a few kilometres.

It tastes alive.

The Setting: Nature as an Ingredient

Our cooking classes take place at Vista Alcantara, nestled in the Sicilian countryside near Mount Etna and Alcantara Gorge.

Here, the environment becomes part of the experience.

The silence of the mountain.
The clarity of the air.
The warmth of summer light.
The slow rhythm of rural life.

You are not in a city kitchen.

You are cooking surrounded by nature.

And something shifts when you slow down enough to feel that.

More Than a Cooking Class

For some guests, this will be a joyful holiday activity.

For others, it becomes something deeper:

• A way to reconnect with food
• A reminder of simplicity
• A creative reset
• A mindful experience
• A shared moment of belonging

Food has always been about more than nourishment.

It is culture.
It is memory.
It is relationship.

And when we cook together, barriers soften.
