Set within almost 15,000 square metres of peaceful natural land, the retreat offers privacy, tranquillity and space to relax, reconnect and unwind away from the pressures of everyday life. Designed for wellness stays, retreats and restorative escapes, Vista Alcantara combines nature, silence and authentic Sicilian beauty in a unique mountain-top setting.
Vista Alcantara is also a labour of love, built brick by brick by Carmelo Conti, whose lifelong dream was to create a sanctuary high in the mountains. He envisioned a place where gardens could flourish, trees could grow and a small corner of nature could be protected for future generations.
To make that dream a reality, he spent many years living and working abroad, rising through the hospitality industry from bottle washer and waiter to international hotel manager and restaurant owner. His dedication, perseverance and love for the land became the foundation of what Vista Alcantara is today.

The Story of Vista Alcantara
Vista Alcantara began as one man’s dream to create a peaceful sanctuary on a wild mountain overlooking Mount Etna and the Alcantara Valley.
In the late 1990s, Carmelo Conti began transforming rugged mountain terrain entirely by hand. At that time there were no roads, no access and no flat land. Over decades of dedication and hard work, the mountain was levelled, roads were built, gardens were planted and the retreat slowly began to take shape.
As the years passed, fruit trees flourished, an olive grove and vineyard were established and the property evolved into the peaceful mountain sanctuary it is today.
In 2023, Vista Alcantara entered a new chapter when the property passed into the hands of the next generation and began a journey of restoration and renewal. Sadly, Carmelo passed away on 19th March 2024 — Father’s Day in Sicily — after seeing only a few photographs of the early renovations from his hospital bed.
For many years, his dream was to share this special corner of Sicily with others. Today, Vista Alcantara continues that legacy by welcoming guests from around the world to experience the peace, beauty and healing atmosphere he spent a lifetime creating.
Ancient Stone Structures on the Mountain
Hidden within the landscape of Vista Alcantara lies an extraordinary piece of local history; a prehistoric stone structure believed to date back to around 3000 B.C.
The stone contains unusual carvings, mysterious openings and features that have sparked considerable interest among local researchers. Its position is particularly fascinating due to its alignment with the spring equinox. At sunrise, light illuminates a specific point on the surrounding mountains, while at sunset sunlight passes through a nearby carved opening and shines towards the structure, creating a remarkable seasonal phenomenon.
Alongside the stone structure sits an ancient palmento, also believed to date back thousands of years. Recently, both attracted the attention of a local geologist and astronomer with a passion for sacred geometry, who featured them in a published study exploring their historical and cultural significance.
While many questions remain unanswered, these ancient structures continue to add a sense of mystery, history and wonder to the mountain landscape surrounding Vista Alcantara.
